Frederic Miller, a German immigrant and brewmaster, arrived in Milwaukee in 1855. That year he purchased the Plank Road Brewery and produced 300 barrels of high quality lager beer. Today Miller Brewing Co. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Phillip Morris with 8,000 employees operating in six states.
