Two proposals were submitted with the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor being selected as the new Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF). The aircraft is constructed using 39% titanium, 24% composite material, 16% aluminum and 1% thermoplastic by weight. All these components contribute to the F-22 being a light weight, extremely maneuverable, extremely fast aircraft that uses stealth technology. The F-22 is also capable of ground attack, electronic warfare and signals intelligence.

On March 12, 2010 an annual Maintenance Professional of the Year banquet was held at Langley AFB, Virginia. For this occasion F-22A 04-4082, the flagship of the 192 FW Virginia ANG unit was given a temporary blue nose paint scheme. The idea was to honor the 328th FS stationed at Bodney, England in WWII. The scheme is a duplicate of the P-51D Cripes-a-Mighty flown by Ace Major George Preddy who was a Commander of the 328th FS. The 192 FW was derived from the 328th FS after WWII.

Extremely Powerful F-22 Raptor Shows Its Crazy Ability (11:07)
The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor is a fifth-generation, single-seat, twin-engine, all-weather stealth tactical fighter aircraft developed for the United States Air Force (USAF). The result of the USAF's Advanced Tactical Fighter program, the aircraft was designed primarily as an air superiority fighter, but also has ground attack, electronic warfare, and signal intelligence capabilities. The prime contractor, Lockheed Martin, built most of the F-22's airframe and weapons systems and did its final assembly, while Boeing provided the wings, aft fuselage, avionics integration, and training systems. The aircraft was variously designated F-22 and F/A-22 before it formally entered service in December 2005 as the F-22A. After a protracted development and despite operational issues, the USAF considers the F-22 critical to its tactical air power, and says that the aircraft is unmatched by any known or projected fighter. The Raptor's combination of stealth, aerodynamic performance, and situational awareness gives the aircraft unprecedented air combat capabilities.

The latest HM F-22 "Cripes A Mighty" is a must have if you are a Raptor fan. Very heavy metal content. Extra missiles, extra canopy, and that rare blue nose are all reasons to collect. Don't be put off by rivet counters who criticize the join line between the upper and lower fuselage for two reasons: (1) digital photography makes the join line appear way wider than it does to the naked eye; (2) the join line and its shape are exactly how the join line appears on the real aircraft. Excellent packing and fast shipping from AA, as always.
