The German Jagdtiger (SdKfz 186) "Hunting Tiger" was a tank destroyer made on the slightly extended chassis of the Tiger II "King Tiger". It featured very heavy armor and a powerful 128mm L/55 PaK44 gun capable of defeating any tank fielded in WW2, even at long ranges. It had 250mm armor on the front glacis, which made it practically invulnerable to any frontal fire. However, the Jagdtiger had no turret, and the main gun had a limited traverse of only 10 degrees, meaning the entire vehicle had to turn to aim at enemy tanks. It suffered from the same maladies as the King Tiger: an underpowered engine, frequent breakdowns, and poor maneuverability. These problems, along with the lack of a turret, made it extremely vulnerable to infantry with anti-tank weapons. Still, when properly supported, the Jagdtiger was an extremely formidable opponent. With a weight of 70 tons and a crew of six, the Jagdtiger was an imposing and lethal tank if properly employed. Equally imposing is Dragon Armor's version of World War II's most powerful tank destroyer. This model is a Henschel version of a vehicle from sPzJgAbt 512, as it operated in Germany in 1945. Bearing the vehicle number "X8", this famous vehicle also had a unique late war camouflage scheme, perfectly reproduced in miniature on this model. It's also set apart by its coat of zimmerit, accurately applied in 1:72 scale.

  1. Instant road block, even if it was just broke down. 4 Star Review

Beautifully painted ambush scheme .... on a vehicle that is bigger than many houses. You really need one of these for your collection as it makes the size of the Elefant and King Tiger seem "reasonable". While quite a rare vehicle, some were used in the Ardennes offensive. Imagine how aggravating it must have been to try to navigate this monster through those forest roads ? Thankfully, the Germans never had enough gas, and these enormous vehicles were a mechanic's nightmare. Note that Dragon's Porche suspension version is also available from Aikens.
