Designed as a replacement for the E-1 Tracer, the Grumman E-2 Hawkeye was first flown in 1960. This all-weather tactical Airborne Early Warning aircraft is the only aircraft-carrier capable aircraft to carry a large rotating dome, which houses the antennas for its long-range radars. Used primarily by the US Navy, the E-2 provides surveillance and airborne early warning of anti-ship and enemy aircraft attacks. Sometimes called "The Hummer" because of its distinctive engine sounds, the E-2 is one of only two propeller airplanes that currently operate from aircraft carriers. The E-2 is still undergoing upgrades, with the modern E-2D taking its first flight in August 2007.

I normally don’t buy Hawkeyes. But something came up and it was important to get one. As a result, I found the Hawkeye here at Aiken’s.
What I didn’t expect was to get an automatic discount as soon as I selected the aircraft. Nice surprise and greatly appreciated.
The plane itself is very detailed and it is as I remember it many years ago when I was in the US Navy on the flight deck of my carrier.
The finish is very nice and it looks excellent on my desk. The pilot who flew this Hawkeye will be honored that I have gone this route to remember him and his kindness towards my son who is deployed to the Middle East.
The plane was well packed and delivered quickly. Very good experience and I look forward to my next evolution with Aiken’s Airplanes.
