HOBBY MASTER AIRPOWER SERIES

The Hawker Hurricane is a British single-seat fighter aircraft of the 1930s–40s which was designed and predominantly built by Hawker Aircraft Ltd. for service with the Royal Air Force (RAF). It was overshadowed in the public consciousness by the Supermarine Spitfire's role during the Battle of Britain in 1940, but the Hurricane inflicted 60 percent of the losses sustained by the Luftwaffe in the engagement, and fought in all the major theatres of the Second World War.

Hawker Hurricane - The Ultimate Home Fighter (11:10)
As World War 2 was about to break out and the Nazis posed a significant threat to the entire European continent, Hawker Aircraft was pursuing a private venture to create the ultimate fighter, one that could face the imposing German Messerschmitts. At the time, Britain was reluctant to modernize its Air Force fleet, still relying heavily on the biplane. But aircraft developers were ready to kick off the era of the monoplane. The Hurricane then gloriously emerged, and it played a pivotal role during the Battle of Britain in the summer of 1940. While the Supermarine Spitfire is usually credited with the victory, it was really the Hurricane that bore the brunt of the fight. As Winston Churchill would say in a speech offering a tribute to Royal Air Force pilots who bravely fought in the decisive battle: "Never in the field of human conflict was so much been owed by so many to so few."--- Join Dark Skies as we explore the world of aviation with cinematic short documentaries featuring the biggest and fastest airplanes ever built, top-secret military projects, and classified missions with hidden untold true stories. Including US, German, and Soviet warplanes, along with aircraft developments that took place during World War I, World War 2, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the Gulf War, and special operations mission in between. As images and footage of actual events are not always available, Dark Skies sometimes utilizes similar historical images and footage for dramatic effect and soundtracks for emotional impact. We do our best to keep it as visually accurate as possible. All content on Dark Skies is researched, produced, and presented in historical context for educational purposes. We are history enthusiasts and are not always experts in some areas, so please don't hesitate to reach out to us with corrections, additional information, or new ideas.
