The first step toward modern U.S. air transportation was taken with the Ford Tri-Motor. Making transcontinental air travel a reality, this aircraft reached peak production in 1929 and featured all-metal construction. Carrying up to eight passengers, the Ford Tri-Motor was the first aircraft to provide airline service across the United States. Reclining seats, restroom facilities and a separate baggage compartment provided new levels of passenger comfort never before available.

Authentically scaled replica travel air model R "Mystery Ship". Die-cast metal coin bank. Highly detailed with struts and rotating propeller.

1929 Travelaire Mystery Ship (02:18)
This accurate and delightful recreation of the Thompson Trophy racer flew gracefully at Akron, Colorado in 2008. There were 5 Mystery Ships built between 1928 and 1931. They had a top speed of 235 mph, which was faster than the miliary pursuit aircraft at the time. Hundreds of speed records fell to this little racer; piloted by Doolittle, Pancho Barnes and Frank Hawks.
