#5 IN THE KOREAN WAR SERIES
Spec Cast announces the "Korean War Aircraft Series" for 2001! This series will include "7" aircraft; four F-86 Saber Jets, one Corsair, one P-51 Mustang and one Twin Beech from the Korean War Theatre. Approximately 2500 of each plane will be produced.
Historical Note: Maj. James P. Hagerstrom joined the 67th FBS/FBW in March 1953, as the unit was making the transition from the P-51D Mustang to the F-86F Sabre Jet. One of several experienced pilots from the 4th FIW, Hagerstrom was transferred to the 67th to help the outfit convert to the new jets, and while with the squadron, he added 6.5 kills to his previous 2 kills scored with the 334th FIS/4th FIW. Maj. Hagerstrom was was the only 18th FBW pilot to achieve "ace" status (the 28th ace of the war), and also the only ace from a fighter-bomber unit. Flying out of K-55 (Osan Air Base), the 67th FBS was joined by the 12th FBS and South African Air Force No. 2 Squadron in making up the 18th FBW.
