USAAC 18TH PURSUIT GROUP "PEARL HARBOR" P-40 WARHAWK

4th in the MAS Series

Spec Cast has just announced (Sept 99) their second World War II Series! This Series is officially called the "Classic WWII Military Airplane Series". It features (3) types of aircraft and a total of (8) planes in the Series. Total numbers produced are projected to run approximately 2500 for each aircraft. Release dates are staggered beginning January 1, 2000 through December 1, 2000.

This featured aircraft from Spec Cast is a 1:44 scale aircraft that features 10 inch wing span, hidden coin bank, rotating wheels and prop and authentic graphics and markings.

Historical Note:    On December 7, 1941 the U.S. Army Air Corps bases near Pearl Harbor were attacked by Japan.  One of the main types of fighter planes stationed in the Hawaiian Islands at the time were the P-40 Models B and C.   Most of the planes were destroyed on the ground, a few were able to take off and engage in combat, and others were salvaged after the attack. This plane represents the December 7th appearance of an 18th Pursuit Group P-40, one of the aircraft that was damaged while on the ground at Wheeler Field and subsequently repaired and returned to duty.

"By the end of April 1944, the 15th and 18th Pursuit Group at Wheeler Field, Hawaii, had received a total of 55 P-40B's. When America was plunged into WWII, the 15th and 18th PG's in Hawaii had 87 P-40B's at Wheeler, of which 62 were destroyed by the Japanese attack.  A few P-40's suffered minor damage from strafing and were salvageable."
