first step toward modern U.S. air transportation was taken with the Ford Tri-Motor. Making
transcontinental air travel a reality, this aircraft reached
peak production in 1929 and featured all-metal construction. Carrying up to eight
passengers, the Ford Tri-Motor was the first aircraft to provide airline service across
the United States. Reclining seats, restroom facilities and a separate baggage compartment
provided new levels of passenger comfort never before available.
