The most extensively used fighter in the Korean War, over 700 aircraft were commissioned in total. Its Pratt & Whitney J48-P-6A turbojet engine gave it 6,250 lbs. of thrust. This engine enabled the F9 to fly at a maximum speed of 579 m.p.h. The F9 fought the enemy with its 4 20-mm cannons, plus two 1,000-lbs. bombs or six 12.7-mm HVAR rockets.
