In 1938 the Mosquito was designed as a reconnaissance aircraft, an unarmed bomber that flew so high and fast that armament would be superfluous. The Mosquito had the maneuverability of a fighter yet this bomber could also fly 400 mph. The plywood bomber had a range of 1650 miles. The Mosquito had 4-20mm cannons and 4-7.7 mm machine guns in the nose plus could carry 2000 lbs. of bombs or 1000 lbs. of bombs and 8 rocket projectiles.
