Widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters of WWII, and first flown in 1936, the Spitfire entered WWII just in time for Dunkirk where it established its reputation as a superior fighter versus the German ME 109’s. The highly maneuverable MKII was an improvement over earlier MK I’s. The V-12 was rated at over 1300 hp, and top speed approached 400 mph.
