U.S. NAVY  F6F3  #13   OF  VF-16  HELLCAT

 

New from Gearbox Collectibles (15Apr99), this sharp looking 1943 F6F3 Navy Hellcat is a replica of the #13 of VF-16 from the USS Lexington. This standard three toned F6F-3 Hellcat contains a unique logo. It is known that this aircraft flew from the USS Lexington in December, 1943.  Special Features include: precision modeling, heavy die-cast metal, custom detail cowling, working propeller, quality tampo graphics, rotating rubber wheels, folding wings, hidden coin bank and limited edition production. Also included is a sturdy display stand that firmly supports the Hellcat above a mock runway.  Wing span measures approximately 11 1/2 inches.

Historical Note: In 1942 the first production F6F-3 was airborne! The F6F-3 Hellcats were delivered to the Navy by January 16, 1943. By the end of the year over 2500 Hellcats had been delivered and were in use. April of 1944 production of the F6F-3's was stopped with a total of 4,402 aircraft produced and delivered to the Navy for use.
