About the Fw190 and Hauptmann Paul-Heinrich Dähne:
The Fw190 was a fighter that played a vital role as Germany desperately tried to stem the tide of the advancing Russian and Allied forces that were crushing it from two directions. Early in 1945 there was an influx of Fw190s at the Eastern Front tasked with slowing the inexorable Russian advance. One such fighter was the “Black Double Chevron” Fw190A-8 flown by Hauptmann Paul-Heinrich Dähne, Gruppenkommandeur of II./JG 1. Dähne was credited with over 100 wartime ‘victories’ before being shot down himself on 24 April 1945.
