FORWARD MARCH - FIGHTER ACES (SERIES III) 

Americas "ace of aces" Major Richard Bong was born in Superior, Wisconsin, in 1920.  A pilot in the USAAF, Maj. Bong is the United States' all-time fighter ace, having shot down 40 enemy aircraft during WWII.  He received his wings and commission in January 1942.  By April 1944, Captain Bong had shot down 27 aircraft, surpassing Eddie Rickenbaker's American record of 26 victories in WWI.  Among Bong's decorations were the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished Service Cross, two Silver Stars, seven Distinguished Flying Crosses and 15 Air Medals.
