"GENERAL IKE" B-17G-40

FLIGHT LINE COLLECTION

The crew cleaning up after a tough run, the pilot reviewing his plans with the copilot, a pat on the back for a job well done.  We can all envision these historical references.  The Flight Line Collection brings them alive with historically accurate planes, along with the crew members who served them.

Historical Note:    One of the 91st BG's most famous bombers, this aircraft was assigned to the group in mid-March 1944.  Its artwork was applied by well-known artist Sgt. Tony Starcer, and the bomber was christened by "Ike" himself with a bottle of Mississippi River water on April11, 1944.  A stalwart of bombing operations in the ETO, this aircraft led the group on at least 32 missions.  Having survived the war, it was flown back to the USA in the summer of 1945 and eventually sold for scrap.
