CORGI CLASSICS - FORGOTTEN HEROES
On June 25, 1950, the
Democratic People's Republic of Korea Army (North Korea) opened fire on the
Republic of Korea Army (South Korea), which was positioned south of the border
between the two countries at a location known as the 38th Parallel. In
their formal declaration of war, the North Koreans claimed this was a response
to being attacked in Haeju. This claim was untrue.
Hours later, President Harry S. Truman authorized General Douglas MacArthur to
evacuate Americans and send equipment and artillery support to the South Korean
forces. In conjunction, the UN Security Council passed a measure for
member countries to send military aid to South Korea. Within days, the US
had totally committed itself to the Korean War.
By popular demand this limited-edition series commemorating the Forgotten War-
the Korean War- has returned. Serving America from 1950-53, we honor our
heroes with this historically accurate series.

Historical Note: The diamondback rattlesnake emblem applied to VMF-323 "Death Rattlers" Corsairs was one of the most distinctive markings worn by any American combat type in the Korean War. It was relatively short-lived, however, and replacement aircraft sent to the unit during its time in action were not decorated in this way due to fears that the snake increased the aircraft's conspicuousness in the dense antiaircraft artillery environments which proliferated in Korea.
