Historical Note:    The F.Mk.2 variant of the famous English Electric Lightning served in Germany during the Cold War years at Geilenkirken, then Gutersloh with Nos. 19 and 92 Squadrons.  Differing little from the earlier F.Mk.1A, the F.Mk.2 featured improved internal equipment and updated engine reheat system. No. 92 Squadron started converting from the Hunter to the Lightning at Leconfield in December 1962.  After a year of training, No. 92 Squadron formed an aerobatic team with their Lightnings in 1964, which lasted about a year.   In 1968, the Lightning F.Mk.2s of 19 and 92 Squadrons were converted to F.Mk.6 standard, being redesignated F.Mk.2A and went on to serve the RAF in Germany until No.92 Squadron disbanded in March 1977, prior to re-equipping with Phantoms.  This model depicts XN768 coded 'S' of 92 Squadron at RAF Gutersloh, Germany in the early 1970's.
