Historical Note: The first production MkIII flew on 15th December 1941 and total production was 456 aircraft of which 71 were built at Belfast, 35 at the Shore factory at Windermere, 170 by Blackburn and the rest at Rochester. The first operational Sunderland squadron was No.230 based at Seletar, Singapore before moving on to the Mediterranean, Ceylon and Burma and then returning to Seletar in 1945. ML868 served with 230 Squadron from 1944 to 1946 and can be seen here liveried in its Southern Pacific markings.
