Historical Note: This Douglas C-47 was built as 44-76540 for the United States Army Air Force and delivered on 16th March 1945, but diverted as a Lend-Lease transport to the Royal Air Force as Dakota IV, KN442. Delivered to the RAF on 18th March it transferred to No.46 Squadron at Stoney Cross, Hampshire on 10th March 1946, in whose service it participated in the Berlin Airlift in 1948. The C-47 was civilianized on 8th March 1952, when it was registered G-AMPZ to Starways Ltd before joining its present owner, Air Atlantic at Coventry in 1988, flying on passenger and freight charter flights. In 1998, it was repainted in its original RAF Transport Command colors to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Berlin Airlift. G-AMPZ currently flies in these markings with dual military and civil registrations.
