Historical Note:   The Boeing Stratocruiser was distinctive in appearance and was one of the great pioneering classic piston-engined airliners of the late 1940's and '50s.  Only fifty-six were built, so it was a matter of status and pride to fly one.  N74601 was the 16th aircraft off the production line and was delivered to Northwest Airlines on 29th July 1949, named 'Stratocruiser Manila', which served the airline faithfully for ten years.  It was last bought by Aero Spacelines for spares use in 1963 and was broken up at Santa Barbara California, in 1967.
