HISTORICAL NOTE:    Whether by virtue of being one of the older pilots in the Luftwaffe (he was 31 in January 1944) or by his extraordinary unbroken length of frontline service (his first kill had been a Morane MS.406 on the 14th May 1940), Major Franz Gotz, the Gruppenkommandeur of III./JG 53, was known to many as ‘Altvater’ Gotz (Old Father), although it is unknown if this was a name that anybody actually referred to him as when in his presence. ‘Black Double Chevron’ is depicted here as it flew midway through Gotz’s 27 months in charge of the Gruppe, his G-6 displays the standard camouflage of the theatre and markings of the period. The fuselage cross is notable, as it appears in dark grey rather than black. 1:32 scale Messerchmitt features exceptional levels of intricate detail including; removable engine covers with fully detailed engine, opening cockpit canopy with detailed pilot figure, removable gun covers with fitted machine guns and ammunition, moving flaps, rudder, ailerons and elevators, fully retractable undercarriage, rotating propeller and cradle display stand.
