LT. GORDON H. MCDANIEL'S "MARY MAC" P-51D MUSTANG

AeroArt is a leading die-cast producer of top end classic cars, and has decided to have a go at the aircraft side of production! They have made plans to produce die-cast replicas in four different scales - 1:24, 1:48, 1:72 and 1:144 scales! The 1:24 scale should be the largest die-cast scale in production for precision die-cast aircraft! Ought to be exciting!

Historical Note:    Capt. McDaniel flew in the European theater as a member of the 325th Fighter Group "the Checker tail Clan" assigned to the 318th Fighter Squadron. Capt. McDaniel's plane, the "Mary Mac", had red wing tips and a checkered tail. The "Mary" of the planes name was his wife's and of course "Mac" was his nickname. Capt. McDaniel was in the following campaigns: Rome, Arno, Air Combat in the Balkans, France, Rhine and Central Europe. He flew 57 combat missions. Decorations and Citations that Capt. McDaniel received are as follows: E.A.M.E. Theater Ribbon with eight battle stars, Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal with ten oak leaf clusters, American Theater ribbon and World War II Victory Medal . On March 14, 1945 Capt. McDaniel gained his status of "Ace in a Day". On this day, Capt. McDaniel shot down five German FW 190's in a single mission. He was one of the few American pilots to ever do this.
