A-4E Skyhawk CF20 "Apocalypse III", Robert Rivers

Historical Note:

The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk is a carrier-capable attack aircraft developed for the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. The delta winged, single-engined Skyhawk was designed and produced by Douglas Aircraft Company, and later by McDonnell Douglas. It was originally designated the A4D under the U.S. Navy's pre-1962 designation system.

The Skyhawk is a lightweight aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of 24,500 pounds (11,100 kg) and has a top speed of more than 600 miles per hour (970 km/h). The aircraft's five hardpoints support a variety of missiles, bombs and other munitions and were capable of delivering nuclear weapons using a low altitude bombing system and a "loft" delivery technique. The A-4 was originally powered by the Wright J65 turbojet engine; from the A-4E onwards, the Pratt & Whitney J52 was used.

Skyhawks played key roles in the Vietnam War, the Yom Kippur War, and the Falklands War. Fifty years after the aircraft's first flight, some of the nearly 3,000 produced remain in service with several air arms around the world, including from the Brazilian Navy's aircraft carrier, São Paulo.

  1. Nice reproduction of the real thing 5 Star Review

Posted by on 16th Apr 2018

I have wanted an A-4E for some time and my eye caught this particular item online and found out it was out of production. But upon checking with Aiken's Airplanes I found it in stock. It is very detailed for its size and the colors and insignia are spot on. I had no problem with assembly and everything fit very well. I read that someone had difficulty in placing the pilot figure as the canopy didn't raise high enough. With the help of a tweezers I had no difficulty getting the job done, all of fifteen seconds were needed. This little plane really looks good with my other Navy aircraft and is a great representation of the Marine outfit that flew them. Thanks Hobby Master and Aiken Airplanes for a great product and wonderful buying experience. The folks here are great and extremely friendly to deal with.

  2. Spectacular "Skyhawk" 5 Star Review

This 1/72"-scale diecast model of the McDonnell-Douglas A-4E "Skyhawk" from Hobby Master is absolutely spectacular in every way. This Marine A-4E of VMA-211 "Wake Island Avengers", which was one of the several U.S. Marine attack squadrons employed during the Vietnam War, is one of several A-4 models that I have collected over the past several years. The landing gear, bomb / missile racks, and auxiliary fuel tanks all fit perfectly on every one of these "Skyhawk" models. The paint schemes and markings are absolutely FIRST-RATE. I commend Hobby Master for their excellent line of U.S. Navy / Marine A-4 "Skyhawks" as well as the several "Skyhawks" which they have produced for foreign air forces and navys. Guys, go with Hobby Master if you are a "Skyhawk" enthusiast like me.
