Historical Note Cont'd: The Falcon 900EX is a French long-range business tri-jet. Produced by Dassault Aviation, its development was announced in October 1994. It completed its first flight on June 1, 1995. In September of the same year, it demonstrated its long-range capability with an 8,705 km nonstop flight from Luton, England to Las Vegas, Nevada. First delivery of the aircraft was in May 1996, and it entered service later in November. The 900EX possesses both versatility and efficiency. It can reach an airspeed of Mach 0.84 or 890 kmph, and is able to travel short and mid-range trips as well. It has the ability to takeoff and land in smaller airports, and the power to reach higer altitudes quickly for a smooth ride.
The damage tolerant design of the 900EX is derived from the Falcon 900. It is an improved version of the 900 with higher power and even more efficient engines and avionics. It features TFE731-60 engines, a Honeywell Primus 2000 EFIS avionics suite, optional Flight Dynamics head-up displays, increased fuel capacity and greater range. Like the 900, the 900EX has three engines. To date, these aircraft, along with the Falcon 50, are the only corporate jets to have three rather than two engines. The 900EX has a roomy cabin divided into three sections that can accommodate up to thirteen passengers. Because of its luxurious interior, the 900EX is the most comfortable aircraft in its category and optimized for long distance routes.
Beginning in 2003, the aircraft was introduced with Dassault's EASy (Enhanced Avionics System) flight deck with four color displays, cursor control devices and multifunction keyboards. The EASy is a revolution in man-machine interface between the crew and the aircraft, helping to improve situational awareness and safety, and reduce cockpit workload.
