Historical Note Cont'd: The Boeing 767 is an American mid-size, wide-body twinjet airliner produced by Boeing's Commercial Airplanes division.
The 767 was introduced the same time as the 757 in 1981-1982. The aircraft incorporates engines used on the 747. Boeing designed the 767 with enough range to fly across North America and across the north Atlantic. It has an outer fuselage diameter of 198 inches, which is narrower than most other wide-body airliners. 767 has an efficient economy class 3.5 seats per aisle, for quicker food service and quicker exit of the plane than many other jetliners. But on the downside, the narrow fuselage of the 767 means that it cannot carry freight in Unit Load Devices. A stretched version of the 767 was proposed by Boeing.
The 767 sold very well during the late 1980s up to the late 1990s, with a decrease during the recession in the early 1990s. Sales of 767 have declined, after experiencing strong sales in 1997 due to the economic recession of the early 2000s, increased competition from Airbus and the recent emergence of a direct replacement program, the Boeing 787.
Air Canada unveiled a new aircraft color scheme and uniforms which is the Boeing 767-300, having a new silver-blue color and the green tail was replaced with a new version of the maple leaf. The 767-300 is a lengthened version of the 767. Its maiden flight was on January 1986 and was delivered to Japan Airlines on September 25, 1986.
