Historical Note Cont'd:     On October 21, 1998, the Trans World Airlines, Inc. (TWA) announced an order of four Boeing 757-200 airplanes which will be delivered in 1999.  The acquired 757-200 and some 767-300ER will add up to TWA's fleet of 27 757-200s and five 767-300s by January 2000.  TWA also announced plans to acquire three additional 757-200s under lease from ILFC and 24 MD-83s from Boeing.  The new 757-200s will replace the airline's remaining fleet of Boeing 727-200 aircraft by the end of 1999.

The Boeing 757-200 is a versatile single-aisle airplane which can fly routes ranging from 500-nautical mile domestic trips to 4,000-nautical mile transatlantic journeys.  The 757-200 is the original verion of 757 and forms the majority of 757 sold and was launched in 1979 and entered service in 1983.  It's maiden flight was on February 19, 1982 at Boeing Renton, Washington plant. 

The 757-200 is a twin-engine short-to-medium-range jetliner incorporating advanced technology for exceptional fuel efficiency, low noise levels, increased passenger comfort and top operating performance.  It features a 200 passengers seat in a typical mixed-class configuration, and that it can accommodate up to 228 passengers in charter service.  It's high-by-pass-ratio engines together with the wing design, makes the 757-200 one of the quietest, most fuel-efficient jetliners in the world. 

The 757-200 was used by Senator John Kerry as his campaign jet during the 2004 U.S. presidential election.
