Historical Note Cont'd:    On January 13, 1982, the first 757-200 was introduced and made its first flight February 19, 1982.  The 757-200 received certification from the FAA on December 21, 1982, after 1,380 hours of flgiht testing for a 10 month period.

The first 757-200 was delivered to Eastern Airlines on December 22, 1982 and was put into service on January 14, 1983.  The 757-200 was also certified by the British Civil Aviation Authority to fly in the United Kingdom.  The British Airways, another launch customer of the 757-200, became the major operator.

The final assembly of the 757-200 and the 757 Freighter version is done in the Renton plant.  Boeing plants in Auburn and Spokane, Washington, Portland, Ore and Wichita, Kansas and other external suppliers provide the parts and assemblies for the airplanes.
