Historical Note Cont'd:    The A330-300 is a large capacity medium to long range airliner and is the biggest member of Airbus' twinjet family.

The A330-300's maiden flight followed shortly after the the first flight of the A340 on November 2, 1992 and was the first aircraft to achieve simultaneous European Joint Airworthiness Authorities (JAA) and US FAA certification on October 21, 1993.  The A330-300 entered service by the end of 1993.
 
The A330-300 closely resembles the A340 when it comes to systems, airframes, flightdeck and wings.  The engine configuration was the major difference.  The A330-300 has the same fuselage length as the A340-300.  The A330 pioneered technologies including the common advanced EFIS flightdeck with side stick controllers and flybywire computerised flight control system.

In 1998, A330-300 has a total order of 177 and 70 were in service.
