
UH-60L BLACKHAWK - SIKORSKY HELICOPTER
Historical Note: The UH-60 Black Hawk is a utility helicopter. It was manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation. Its maiden flight was in 1974 and it was introduced commercially in 1979. It is still active in the service and its primary users are United States Army and Australian Army.
The UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter was developed to meet the United States Army requirement to replace the UH-1 Iroquois in 1972. There are four prototypes that were constructed. The first flew in 1974. The Black Hawk was selected and put in production and in 1979 the UH-60A entered the service with the United States Army. In 1980 the aircraft was upgraded to UH-60L and it featured great power and lift plus improved -701C model of the GE engines.
The UH-60 has many variants. The standard version of United Army can be fitted with the ESSS or the External Stores Support System that has wings that allow it to carry maximum of four external fuel tanks. The UH-60 variants are the UH-60A Black Hawk, which is the original United States Army version that allows 4 to 11 passengers and is powered by T-700-GE-700 engines; the UH-60A RASCAL, which is a Rotorcraft-Aircrew Systems Concepts Airborne Laboratory version of NASA; the EH-60A Black Hawk, which is a customized electrical systems; the MH-60A Black Hawk which is customized with additional avionics and powered by T-700-GE-701 engines; and many others.
The UH-60 Black Hawk allows a minimum of two pilots.
