The MQ-1 Predator was developed as an Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration (ACTD) program and has participated in various training exercises, deployments and other operational deployments. In October 2001, the MQ-1 was deployed to Afghanistan, providing intelligence and a strike capability in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The Predator participated in Roving Sands 1995, an annual exercise held in the southwestern United States and it played a substantial role during its deployment to the European theater in the summer of 1995. Since 1995, MQ-1s have been operational in Bosnia for its intelligence gathering capabilities and it served in over 600 missions.
The primary user of the MQ-1 wsa the United States Air Force. By the end of 2004, the MQ-1 was also used by the Italian Air Force and since 2006, it was used by the Royal Air Force. One MQ-1 ws used by the Pakistan Air Force.
