SUPER ELITE: B-25J MITCHELL

Historical Note:    The B-25J Mitchell was named after Billy Mitchell who is a general in the 1920’s and who fights for his own wars within the armed services. He is the leading American advocate of Air power and strategic bombing in the 1920’s. The Mitchells production was greatly increased after the Pearl Harbor attacked by the Japanese. More over, the B-25 Mitchell operated on major wars making it tough and gave it a high reputation.

Successfully the same as the B-25H, the B-25J Mitchell North American was first launched in December of 1943. The only difference between B-25J and B-25H is that it has no millimeter cannon and a different nose. There were 4,390 Mitchell that were built at a new NAA plant in Kansas City. The B25J is said to be the most heavily produced of all the Mitchells. 255 of these were given at USMC as PBJ-1Js. 10 of the B-25J was modified and RAF acquired 375 of the Mitchells.

A total of 1,400 B-25Gs and B-25Hs were built. The 75mm cannon fired at a muzzle velocity of 2,362 fps, about 720 m/s. The 75mm cannon was sometimes removed from both G and H models because of its below average performance in firing and comparative ineffectiveness against ground targets. It was replaced with two additional .50-caliber machine guns as a field modification.

The B-25H has a featured and redesigned cockpit area. Some revisions include a heavily modified cockpit designed to be operated by a single pilot, with the co-pilot's station and controls deleted, and the seat cut down and used by the navigator top turret moved forward to the navigator's compartment, with the radio operator in the aft compartment operating the waist guns.
