Historical Note:    This Douglas A-26 Invader, a light attack bomber with its deadly firepower and high speed, exceeded every specification for which it was designed. It was the best ground-attack and tactical bomber in the American arsenal.

During the Korean War, the A-26 was re-designated as the B-26 Invader, and was used widely as a night intruder. The A/B-26 Invader attacked various targets in the North from front-line battle soldiers to railroad switching yards.

In history, the A-26 Invader was the only aircraft that was used in three major wars. The A-26 was designed as a twin-engine light attack bomber in World War II. It was first used in 1942 and was seen in service during the cold war’s most important divergences. The design of the A-26 Invader, a single pilot aircraft, is very extraordinary compared to other aircrafts during its time.

The A-26 Invader was initially assembled having two dissimilar configurations: the A-26B had six or eight .50 caliber machines on its solid nose and the A-26C which had a glass nose containing the Norden bombsight and it was used for medium altitude precision bombing. A lot of development problems were encountered by its crew, thus, it took 28 months to arrange everything. It was then re-designated as B-26 in 1948. The A-26 was used in the war against North Korea creating anarchy of destruction of 38,500 vehicles, 3,700 railway cars, 406 locomotives and 7 enemy aircrafts. On July 27, 1953, the A-26 Invader dropped the last bombs of the Korean War. In the later years, from being designated as B-26 the A-26 Invader was again re-designated as A-26A due to the agreement with the Thai government that no bombers should be stationed there.
